A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Ebubeagu Felix Okafor has received an invitation from the Department of State Services (DSS) over comments he allegedly made against the Person of Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geofrey Onyeama, in the media.
Okafor, the Secretary of APC in Udi local government area and a founding member of APC in Enugu State, was recently appointed as a member of the Federal College of Agriculture Ishiagu, Ebonyi State.
He is billed to appear before the Nigerian secret service tomorrow.
The APC chieftain confirmed to our correspondent in a telephone interview that he received an invitation from the DSS to appear on Wednesday.
Okafor, said he was not aware of the content of the petition against him, although he gathered that the petition was written by one Joseph Chukwudum and suspended Deputy Chairman, Adolphus Ude who leads a faction of the party, which enjoys the support of the Foreign Affairs Minister.
Our reporter however obtained a text message that the Minister circulated to some APC chieftains in the State, insinuating that Okafor was being used by an APC bigwig in Abuja (names withheld) to attack him.
Reacting to the invitation extended to Okafor, the Enugu state chapter of APC, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, to kindly call the Minister of foreign Affairs, Geophery Onyeama to order.
Speaking in Enugu on Tuesday, Ben Nwoye, Enugu APC Chairman, accused the Minister of engaging in incessant harassment off APC members with security operatives.
According to Nwoye, the Minister who has refused to embrace the olive branch recently extended to him and some other suspended members of the party loyal to him, has done more harm than good to the party in the state.
He wondered why Onyeama should be using his position and office to pull down APC in the state, rather than building it.
Nwoye accused the Minister of deriving joy in sponsoring crisis in the state, using the suspended deputy chairman, Adolphus Udeh and some facless individuals unknown to the party.
He confirmed that Okafor has been invited for questioning by the state Command of the DSS on Wednesday over a petition written against him by the Minister through the suspended Deputy Chairman, Udeh.
According to Nwoye, the Minister, through his cronies wrote a petition to the security outfit, alleging that Okafor made some derogatory statement against his person.
The APC Chairman said a security organization as DSS do not have any business in handling such matter.
“We, the members of APC in Enugu state are calling on president Buhari to help us call the Foreign Affairs Minister to order. He should leave us alone. Onyeama remains a cog in the wheel of progress of the party in the state.
“The Minster is causing problem in our party in the state. He should stop distracting us and funding crisis. Onyeama should please allow us concentrate on our move towards winning elections in 2019.
“It is unfortunate that the Minister is dragging us back, in our quest towards sending the PDP packing in the state come 2019” Nwoye said.
Efforts by our correspondent to reach Onyeama on phone yielded no fruits as at press time.
