As parties intensify campaigns for the November 4 local government election in Enugu State, the chairmanship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Aninri local government area, Hon. Uzoigwe Oleh, has vowed to rescue the council from the iron grip of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oleh who hails from Okpanku town, said he has come to rescue his people and provide infrastructure and basic amenities for them.
He spoke when the APC campaign train led by the State Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye, berthed in Okpanku town, Aninri LGA of the State.
Other Enugu APC bigwigs in the train included the former Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Eugene Odo, former military administrator of Gombe State, Group Captain Joe Orji (rtd.), APC governorship candidate in 2015, Okey Ezea and the Vice Chairman, Enugu West, Ik Omenkukwu.
Group Captain Orji told the people that the time has come for them to liberate themselves from the iron grip of one man.
“Before now, one man decides who becomes the Chairman and councilors in Aninri local government and all this while nothing has been given to Okpanku. Power has not come to Okpanku. Everything that has been shared, none has been given to Okpanku. This is time to liberate your selves” Orji said.
Addressing a mammoth crowd at Awgu LGA, the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Odo, said APC has taken power at the federal level and the time has come for the party to wrest power from PDP in Enugu State and Awgu LGA.
Odo who was speaker of the House between 2007 and 2015, described the APC Chairmanship candidate in Awgu, Hon. Chiedozie Nwafor as a well groomed youthful and grassroots politician.
He said the rally marks the beginning of the revolution to remove PDP from power in Awgu next month and in Enugu State in 2019.
“We have been in PDP for 16 years and for eight years, I was speaker. We saw that the ship is sinking and jumped out. We have taken power in Abuja. Revolution is starting in Awgu today. By 2019, we will swear in chairman here. By 2019, you will see politics in Enugu State.
“Although PDP was bragging that it has ENSIEC, nobody will write results in the forthcoming council polls. By November 3, you will see security in Awgu. Anybody who sees the security in Awgu will know that nothing will happen. We are not telling security to support us. We want police to follow the materials from ENSIEC to polling units and provide security for the voting, counting of votes to the point of declaration of results” Odo said.
Speaking with journalists after the flag-off, the APC state chairman, Dr Nwoye, urged the people of Awgu and Aninri to cast their votes for APC, the party ready to ensure that funds allocated to the councils were deployed to the benefit of the people.
Nwoye said PDP lacks programmes and has resorted to propaganda by telling the people not to come out and vote as results were already written in favour of the PDP candidates.
