Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State chapter has declared that Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must leave the Senate.
Ekweremadu, the senator representing Enugu West senatorial district, is currently serving his fourth term in the Senate and has been endorsed by Enugu West PDP for a fifth term in 2019.
But, Dr Ben Nwoye, the State Chairman of APC, declared at the weekend that Ekweremadu’s stint at the Senate would end in 2019.
Nwoye spoke after receiving second term endorsement from APC Enugu East LGA, ahead of the forthcoming state congress of the party.
The party boss, who was elated by his endorsement, said 2019 elections would be the fiercest in the history of Enugu State, as it would no longer be business as usual for PDP.
Nwoye said he was very sure that Enugu West senatorial zone would fall into the hands of APC in Enugu State.
He said unlike past general elections, APC would field candidates for all the elective offices in Enugu State, including House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship.
Nwoye recalled that in the last local government elections in the State, APC fielded candidates for the 17 chairmanship positions and 260 councillorship positions, but PDP colluded with the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) to rig the polls.
“In the council polls, they took away the result sheets. But this time, nobody will give them result sheets. So, it will no longer be business as usual for PDP in Enugu State. APC will give them a run for their money” Nwoye said.
Earlier, Prince Mike Onyeka, the Chairman of APC in Enugu East LGA, announced that the party has endorsed the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Onyeka also said Enugu East APC has endorsed the re-election of the National Vice Chairman, South-East, Emma Eneukwu and the State Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye.
